Holidays in the House…

Here comes Santa Claus, here comes Santa Claus, right down Santa Claus Lane…

Very familiar line of an old children’s Christmas song. How it came out of history and found it’s home in the House of God is beyond me. Along with many other perennial old favorites, like weeds in a beautiful garden these things just keep cropping up where they do not belong. I realize that people wax emotional over these wonderful old traditional songs and become misty eyed at the prospect of the little children singing them for the Christmas Church Program. However, I have found a glaring problem over the years in my walk with Jesus and my studies of Gods’ Word, the BIBLE. The Bible is very plain. The Words are blunt, direct, and to the point.

1st John 1:21 NIV Bible

I do not write to you because you do not know the truth, but because you do know it and because no lie comes from the truth.

No lie is of the Truth. Plain, blunt, and simple. I have so wrestled with the Truth of God’s Word in theory and practice over the years . Are God’s People supposed to lie? Does lying belong in the House of God? The answers to these two questions are an emphatic and resounding NO!

If this then is the case and we know lying is wrong, why then do we continue to make and practice lies in the Name of Jesus in the very House of God and think it is OK? God Himself declares in His Own Word, “The people draw near to Me with their lips but their heart is far from Me”. Santa Claus and all his trappings, the three wise men at the manger, Jesus shivering in a cold barn on a winters night, Christmas on December 25th, and everything that goes along with it are lies. It is in the songs that are sung, it is taught, it is preached, it is believed, and it is not in the Bible.

Ask almost any Christian and they will tell you they are pretty sure Jesus was not born on December 25th.  Extra-Biblical research will back this thinking up. The weather was nasty, no sheep would be in the fields at night, and what emperor in his right mind would have people travel by foot during the worst weather of the year? The emperor wants his money, not a bunch of sick and dead constituents. On top of that neither the Bible, nor Jesus set any standard for celebrating a holiday(?) known as Christmas. Is not Christmas Christ Mass? If His birth is being celebrated why is it called Christ Mass and is linked to His death rather than His Life?

Let’s consider the Santa Claus story for a moment. He is not real. How many youngster have had their hearts broken when they’ve discovered Santa is not real, and their parents, who are supposed to love and protect them, have been lying to and deceiving them at the most impressionable tender part of their young lives? I know some adults who still have issues with this deception played upon them by their own parents. Is this how Christian parents are supposed to train up their children in the Lord? I’m pretty sure Jesus is not good with parents lying to and deceiving their children in His Name or in the name of love.

Let’s take Old Saint Nick out of the equation for a moment. If Old Nick isn’t the topic of conversation do you still lie to your children about other things? How about your co-workers perhaps, or your spouse? Or God Himself for that matter. I believe the point is probably well made by now, yes?

One more thing. Do you suppose Jesus wants people to go into debt because of His birthday? People go money spending crazy at Christmas time. Black Friday has been moved to Black Thursday. Come on. Wake up! This is not what Jesus wants people to do. Tradition? Love? Really? This is not how one worships or honours God or Jesus with their finances. No, it’s how people make themselves miserable in the name of Christmas at the end of the year. It’s like being money drunk, then waking up on December 26th with a horrible financial hangover that lasts for the rest of the year, or at least until the Christmas Spirit grabs you again about  next October…

Hammer and Forge

If I do it well, whatever “it” is, I love myself and feel like the King of the World, adjuring others to bask in the glory of self promotion…

But woe unto to me if I run afoul of my own plans. The hammer of unforgiving disdain falls like a killing blow on my most profound sense of well being.

In the forge of self loathing the impassioned hammer blows have bent my will to push on. Sparks fly as worthless emotional slag is cast off and forgotten, remolded by each perceived failure.

I will forge ahead, cooled, calculating, planning to do it well, again, again…

The planning becomes my aria, the final execution, my stage…

The curtain rises…

The forge is fired…

The hammer falls…

Again…

Again…

Whole lotta shakin’ goin’ on…

Is church a multi-million dollar business to be run like a fortune 500 company with a coterie staff, huge buildings, and sprawling campuses? Or possibly a small group of threadbare raggedy individuals who haven’t enough money between them to pay attention. Somewhere in-between perhaps.

Kinda like Washington, D.C. these days isn’t it? One could say I suppose, “As goes the country, so goes the church?”. Probably not a valid Biblical idea, nevertheless, something is definitely going on. It appears to me that all this ability to interact at will and access and share information, sans research, has caused people to act as if they are drunken or on drugs.

Oh my God, the cannons have broken lose and are firing at will! Jesus help us, run for the hills! Is there no safe, sane place to find respite from this deluge of unrestrained confusion? This new age Tower of Babel is certainly no place to find solace from the flood. The flood created it!

Big government and big church… Who are the Christians an who are the politicians?  God only knows and He’s reserving that information for the final analysis…

Lefty…

Bound by cold calculating reason and chained to a relentless neurophysiological   tornado…

ADHD! you say. As if passing by a large pig farm on a squalid summers day hastily cranking up the car windows and mashing on the throttle.

Can’t remember where I left my car keys, glasses, wallet, or why I’m frenetically pacing from one room to the next.

Neurons firing at above light speed fueling the logic flinging tornado round and round like a socko ball on a string burning up glucose ’till the storm passes and in the shadow of exhaustion, reason, like a black robed jailer, once again tightens the manacles of decorum around my psyche.

and whispers ever firmly…

you must  return to the left side of your cognition now…

My well is dry?

Occasionally, when I was a child and people still used shallow man made brick wells…

In the heat of a particularly unforgiving summers drought, these wells would go dry.

I sometimes, more than sometimes as of late, see people respond to increased outside pressure on their mental, emotional, and spiritual collateral, behave as those old brick wells during a long hot dry spell. As the wells resources were near to being depleted you were almost certainly guaranteed, at least in this area of the midwest, copious amounts of muddy water. Priming the pump was nothing more than sowing to the wind. A gross waste of time and energy that left you with less precious hydration, weary of pumping, and nothing to replace it. That is of course, unless you are fond of refreshing yourself with mud.

I would suppose then, I would liken this relentless, unforgiving onslaught of popular media, which fosters intellectual drought and stirs up moderate to severe negative emotions, and God forbid actions, as like unto the intense effects of the drought on the old well…

Why in the world would any sane human being willingly trade cold, clean, refreshing water for buckets of mud?

Jesus walks among us!

Jesus of Nazareth said there would be imposters in the last days. People claiming to be Him misleading many people. I was on youtube last night and found three men currently claiming to be Jesus. One in Australia, one in Russia, and one here in the U.S. in Florida. The one in Florida has his own T.V. ministry and has the potential to reach millions of people regularly. If vast amounts of people being deceived into thinking Jesus is currently alive and well on Planet Earth qualifies us to be in the last days and nearer to the return of the real Jesus…I would suppose we are there.

The sorrows we are in…

Matt. 24:4 And Jesus answered and said unto them, Take heed that no man deceive you.

For many shall come in my name, saying, I am Christ; and shall deceive many.

And ye shall hear of wars and rumours of wars: see that ye be not troubled: for all these things must come to pass, but the end is not yet.

For nation shall rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom: and there shall be famines, and pestilences, and earthquakes, in divers places.

All these are the beginning of sorrows, (emphasis mine).

Over the years I’ve seen some pretty strange people laying claim to Jesus and proclaiming Him to be Messiah. Lately we’ve heard of class wars, religious wars, rumours of nuclear war and biological war. Nations and Kingdoms  threatening war and financial sanctions one against the other. Serious global economic problems, disease, famine, and death on a huge scale. Earthquakes are commonplace coupled with tsunamis and flooding. Fires burning out of control, crops failing, animals, birds, and fish dying en masse, ice melting and oceans rising.

It appears to me that least some of the criteria matching the beginnig of sorrows, spoken of by Jesus, is now occuring and has been for some time…Looks like the Bible is true…just sayin.

Christian Unity?

As a Christian I often wonder why there is so much division among the People of God. Why is doctrine so dogmatically important to the extent it supersedes the Love of God? Jesus said “people will know you are My Disciples by the love you have for each other”. The religious leaders of Jesus day had line upon line and precept upon precept pretty well nailed down…intellectually. They simply had not the heart for the people. Especially the poor and down trodden of which Jesus has the utmost concern. If everyone who claims to be born-again has Gods’ very Spirit in them where is the love? The concern for ones’ fellow man and Christian brothers and sisters? I suppose a large part of Christendom is simply immature in the Things of God and the Life of Christ…Just my thoughts.
